Born in Kainaliu, he was a retired industrial arts teacher who taught at Hilo High School, Honokaa High School and Kalanianaole Intermediate School, former instructor for Hilo Ki-Aikido Club, member of the Prostate Cancer Support Group and Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin and U.S. Army Reserve veteran. Teodorico “Tidi” Mendoza Jr., 69, of Pepeekeo died Nov. 27 at home. Born in Hilo, he worked at the Hakalau and Wainaku plantations, Hilo Coast Processing Co., Gay and Robinson, Aloha Machine and Welding Co., Parsons Inc., Critchfield Pacific Inc. and AZCO, was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Hakalau Senior Citizens, Pepeekeo Filipino Club, ILWU Pension Club, Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 675, Pepeekeo Volunteer Firefighters, Hilo Coast Fishing Association, Aloha Machine and Welding Bowling Team, US Bowling Club, East Hawaii Aquaculture Group and volunteered at the Pepeekeo Volunteer Fire Station, Big Island International Marathon and Sakada Day Celebration. Drive-through celebration of life 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, 2021, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Masks and social distancing required. No refreshments.
